Will You Be Ready for the Great American Eclipse?

We are two months and two days away from the big day. August 21st will be here before we know it. What are you doing to help prepare your business for this once in a lifetime event? Communities, businesses and individuals are planning all over the state. The topics being discussed range from community safety to business opportunities. As you prepare for the big day, here are a few things to remember:

  • It has been estimated that the State of Wyoming could see an influx of hundreds of thousands of tourists for this event. Check out what the Wyoming Department of Tourism is doing to promote the event here
  • With so many visitors coming, it is important to get your business on the map. Google, through their Get Our Cities on the Map program, makes it easy and free for businesses to create their online directory listing. Contact Sarah Hamlin to help you through this process or go here to get started.
  • The Wyoming Department of Revenue is offering temporary sales tax and lodging tax licenses for individuals who are interested in selling a product or renting out lodging during the Eclipse week. You can find more information about this application (it's free) here
  • Places like AirBnB and VRBO are blowing up with Wyoming residents offering up their rooms and homes to guests. These platforms do not automatically collect lodging tax for you. You will still want to apply for your temporary lodging tax license above.
  • If you are renting lodging or parking to visitors, make sure to check in with your insurance agent to make sure your policy covers your guests.
  • Think about extras, like bottled water, that you could stock at your store for a hot August day.
  • Keep a look at for events your communities are holding. All over the state we are seeing community street parties, rodeos and music popping up on Eclipse day. These types of events could be a great place to promote your business to a new audience.

Regardless of where you are in your planning, remember, the Wyoming SBDC Network is here to help. Connect with your local advisor here.
