Does your logo accurately reflect the unique culture of your business? Your logo is likely the face of the solid brand that you have built over the years. A customer may not be inspired to purchase your product based solely on your logo design, but it does identify you and helps you stand out from your competition! Maybe it’s time to refresh that image!

Does your logo accurately reflect the unique culture of your business?  You may have built a solid brand over the years, and your logo is likely the face of your company! A customer may not be inspired to purchase your product based solely on your logo design, but it does identify you and helps you stand out from your competition!

What are the reasons for considering a change or refresh of your current logo? If your company is perceived as “timeless,” you may want to move slowly when making big image changes, as “new” could be unsettling or threatening. But there are also times when it is a good idea to change things up a bit! Even big companies refresh their “look” by making subtle changes, usually following the latest trends in design, color, and font. A refreshed brand identity could be an indication that the company is releasing new products or services, is making positive changes within the organization, or has new leadership. There are other things to consider when deciding to change your logo too. Ask yourself: Is your current logo too complex? Is it easy to reduce or enlarge (think tiny image on a pen or huge design on a billboard)? Is it hard to read? Does it look dated? Does it work with current website and social media platforms?

Just as in the world of fashion, graphic design definitely follows trends. What is hot in 2017? Clean, minimalistic and geometric designs are popular, as well as simplified colors, retro designs and hand-drawn images. Hand-drawn logos provide a “fresh, comforting, human, and grounded” vibe, which is a feeling that our computer-driven world is craving!

So, how do you go about changing or refreshing your logo? Many local and online designers will give you feedback and help you create a new design that reflects the current passion and enthusiasm of your business. Explore online portfolios to assess style of work, design process and pricing structure.  The Wyoming SBDC Network can also help you assess the effectiveness of your current logo or help you solidify your sketches and ideas so they can be taken to your designer, printer or sign company for finalization. Have fun with your new updated image!
