Small Business Marketing 101

As a small business owner, you may not have a team of advertisers, researchers and web developers at your disposal. Your main focus is likely on a specific passion that first prompted you to offer your services or product to the community. Luckily for Wyoming entrepreneurs, there are several coaches, classes and resources available to help fill in those marketing gaps.

 

If you need to learn the marketing basics or are ready to take your skills to the next level, there are several training opportunities coming up throughout the state. Here’s a look at some of the low-to-no-cost events from the Wyoming Small Business Development Center (SBDC) Network:

 

  • Aug. 9 – Integrate Your Online and Offline Marketing Efforts (Webinar)

 

  • Aug. 23 – Start Your Own Business (Cheyenne)

 

  • Sept. 13 – Why Print Marketing Works in Wyoming (Webinar)

 

  • Dec. 6 – Choosing a Website Builder (Webinar)

 

If you can’t attend these trainings, your local SBDC advisor is always available to offer marketing guidance at no cost. Every advisor has extensive experience and knowledge in marketing small businesses. Most of our staff have even owned small businesses of their own, so you can learn from other Wyoming entrepreneurs.

 

No-cost market research is another valuable resource available to entrepreneurs in the state. The Wyoming SBDC Network’s market researchers have access to a wide variety of databases and can help you find solutions such as identifying target audiences, following industry trends and even analyzing your website.

About the Author: Jake Dixon is the statewide Marketing & Communications Specialist for the Wyoming Small Business Development Center Network. Jake received his bachelor’s degree in Advertising and Public Relations from Idaho State University (ISU). He spent 12 years working in television news before crossing to the other side of media as Director of Public Relations for ISU’s health care programs—which make up one third of the university. Jake’s background has also given him valuable experience with all aspects of social media management, graphic design and video production.

 

When he’s not in the office: Jake enjoys taking road trips with his wife, catching the latest movies and spending time working in the garage, garden or on household projects.
