The American Psychological Association is involved in a project to promote psychologically healthy workplaces. Their Web site ( is filled with information to help you learn the benefits of creating such a workplace and practices that make it possible.


For example, do you know a psychologically healthy workplace not only benefits employees by providing increased job satisfaction, higher morale, better physical and mental health and improved ability to manage stress, but it also benefits your company? Benefits include improved quality, performance and productivity, fewer accidents, improved customer service and satisfaction and reduced absenteeism and turnover.


Creating a healthy culture in any company requires intention and the implementation of specific practices. The good news is a lot of this can be done without additional expense. The Psychologically Healthy Workplace Program (PHWP) divides these workplace practices into five categories: employee involvement, work-life balance, employee growth and development, health and safety and employee recognition. Check the website for further information about each of these areas and begin developing your PHWP plan today.


PHWP also presents awards designed to recognize organizations for their efforts to foster employee health and well-being while enhancing organizational performance.
