Tune into 200 million+ Wyoming contracting opportunities

Feb 22, 2011

I'm at the GRO-Biz Conference and Idea Expo in Evanston where I just had lunch with Robert Tompkins of the State of Wyoming Office of State Lands and Investments. He offered a great tip for Wyoming small businesses that want to keep abreast of contracting opportunities related to $200 million plus state dollars spent in local communities. Robert recommended that interested contractors visit the Office of State Lands website and read the recent awards made to municipalities, joint powers boards and other recipients. Then, if the funded projects look like they might include contracts you can bid on, contact the recipient community to see what process you'll need to go through to submit a bid.

Go to the Office of State Lands website and scroll down to the link called "Boards." Then click the link called, "Past Board Agendas." This will give you an opportunity to download pdf files of all past meetings of the State Loan & Investment Board. Open the pdf file and scroll down, looking for the topics, "Director's Recommendation" and "Board Action." These sections will show you the projects and dollar amounts that were awarded—and the areas you may find opportunities for your business. The process takes a little bit of drilling down, but it's great way to do some serious intel to support new business for your company.

The "Boards" web page also has a listing of all upcoming meetings so you can mark your calendar and check the minutes as soon as they are posted, which should be within 48 hours of the meeting. Happy prospecting!
