Driven by a passion to support families in distress, Kim Hoyt launched Sweet Motivation in January 2024. As a cardiovascular nurse with 26 years of medical experience and a Type 1 diabetic, Kim personally understands the daily hurdles of diabetes management and was motivated to ensure local children had the necessary tools to manage their diagnosis effectively.
Sweet Motivation produces Prevent-A-Pak kits - conveniently sized bags with essential resources for youth navigating diabetes. Beyond physical tools, Kim’s mission centers on inspiring individuals to find the sweetness in life despite health challenges.
Like many startup founders, Kim faced early obstacles in finding manufacturers, building supplier relationships, and securing working capital. Kim connected with Regional Director Kenny Overby and Wyoming SBDC Network for professional advising. Kim gained clarity on navigating grant landscapes, evaluating non-dilutive capital opportunities, and preparing compelling applications.

Through strategic planning and local support, Kim successfully executed a Kickstarter campaign and secured a competitive American Express grant. These critical funding milestones gave Sweet Motivation the momentum and liquidity required to scale operations, fulfill production demands, and broaden its distribution channels.
With foundational capital secured, Kim forged a key partnership with the American Diabetes Association. This collaboration validated her product line and served as a catalyst for rapid growth, propelling Sweet Motivation from a regional initiative into an international provider shipping Prevent-A-Pak kits globally.
Kim realized the full scope and demand of her venture during major industry health conferences. Facing crowded exhibition halls with thousands of attendees eager to learn about her mission, photograph her products, and share their own stories, she knew her solution was resonating with the community.
Kim’s success stems from authentic passion for her business and for people. Having spent decades managing her own health journey while observing families struggle without adequate support, her commitment to making a lasting difference remains steadfast.
Kim's advice for aspiring business owners:
"Having a team is really important - from operational support to emotional encouragement. Don't be shy about accessing resources or accepting help when it's offered."
Looking toward the next five years, Kim envisions expanding Prevent-A-Pak so every individual living with diabetes receives accessible, high-quality care. She is currently developing a free mobile app to deliver comprehensive diabetes education directly to families, aimed at keeping patients out of the hospital so they can live life to the fullest. Ultimately, Kim aims to secure health insurance coverage for Prevent-A-Pak kits, ensuring cost is never a barrier to life-changing resources.
