The Wyoming Small Business Development Center (SBDC) Network is proud to announce Sarah Mikesell Growney, Program Manager for the Wyoming APEX Accelerator, as this year’s recipient of the prestigious State Star award.
The State Star is the highest honor bestowed by America’s SBDC network, awarded annually to an outstanding team member who demonstrates exemplary performance, dedicated service to small businesses, and a profound commitment to economic development within their state. Sarah was selected for her exceptional support for Wyoming entrepreneurs seeking success in local, state, and federal government procurement.
As Program Manager for the Wyoming APEX Accelerator, a specialized program hosted by the University of Wyoming and part of the Wyoming SBDC Network, Sarah guides local businesses through the complex landscape of government contracting. Her work directly empowers Wyoming companies to secure crucial revenue streams, expand operations, and create sustainable local jobs.
Sarah brings a rich background and lively personality to her role. Having lived and worked in Wyoming for over two decades, she spent ten years as a small business owner herself. This practical experience, paired with her background in marketing, accounting, public policy, public relations, and legal work, enables her to connect with business owners and offer highly practical, strategic advising. Under her leadership, the Wyoming APEX Accelerator has assisted small businesses with market research, bidding strategies, certifications, and post-award management.
“Sarah is passionate about the work the APEX Accelerator does,” Tierra Price, Procurement Specialist with the Wyoming APEX Accelerator said. “Her passion shows through the work and the client relationships that she creates. She is a strong leader of the APEX team and ensures a positive work environment by making sure the team’s goals are clear.”
Beyond her technical expertise, Sarah’s collaborative approach to community engagement has resulted in impactful educational webinars, targeted training sessions, and regional networking events across the state.
Congratulations, Sarah! And thank you from the Wyoming SBDC Network.
